Location: Tours | Bjelašnica (Umoljani - Lukomir) Hiking Tour
Umoljani - Lukomir tour is simply the best hiking tour in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is a must do/see by any nature lover. This tour is designed for people of medium and hard fitness and can be adjustable for anybody.
Tour Attractions
This tour will begin with ride from Sarajevo (8:30 AM) to Umoljani village, accross Bjelašnica mountain which is first of all Olympic mt., and second of all maybe the most beautiful one in whole Bosnia and Herzegovina.After approx. 1 hour ride when we reach Umoljani, we shall have a breakfast. Breakfast will be 100% home-mountain-made products, grown and made by the locals. We shall try out Uštipci with kajmak, few varieties of chesse, milk, yoghurt and coffee.
After a great breakfast we shall go for the hike.
Umoljani village is mostly known for few things: Dragon, Mosque and Studeni Potok (Cold Creek). To know more about these and see them, I guess you will have to book a tour :)
Regarding the hike from Umoljani to Lukomir we have two options: easier one and harder one. Easier one is mostly flat and would be medium or even lower medium hardness. It will take us to reach Lukomir around 2 - 3 hours, where we shall have one good climb and most of the time will use macadam road, which will guide us to Lukomir.
Harder option require a lot of climbing and would be 4 on scale from 1 to 5. This option would require 3 - 4 hours hike. Our personal preferation would be harder option. Once we climb the highest peaks of Saruk, Kobilica or Obalj at crayz 1896 meters above sea level, we shall have the opportunity to witness the outstanding and miraculous views over Visočica, Treskavica and Bjelašnica and its peak Krvavac on amazing 2067 m.a.s.l., but most importantly CANYON of Rakitnica. Also in the far distance numerous villages such as Bobovica, Umoljani and Lukmir as well will be in the reach of our eyes.
Once we hit the top of the area, peak called Obalj we shall go for the slow downhill to Lukomir village which is on 1496 meters above sea level. Once there we go for a deserved resting time, having local coffee, and food we brought with ourselves from Umoljani. Also we shall check into life of locals and maybe buy some handicrafts.
We shall have the opportunity to talk and see how the locals live. Lukomir is highest, permanent (inhabited whole year) and most isolated village in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
From Lukomir there is outstanding view over Rakitnica canyon which drops down more than 800 meters.
After amazing time in Lukomir, we head it back, but this time more relaxed and easy going route of Rakitnica Canyon ridge, which is slightly downhill. This way back is always the same for both options of hike, harder or easier.
The route will give us magnificent views over the area such as village of Bobovica, remainings of old watermills, during the season drained or even not beautiful creeks. All in all great stuff.
On the way back also we shall walk through maybe even to most beautiful valley in whole Bosnia and Herzegovina, valley which is enriched with experience of Studeni Potok and its waterfall (unless it is gone during the hot summer seasons).
Once we reach Umoljani again prepare yourself for best Krompiruša (potato made pie) or Sirnica (cheese made), with again local yoghurt and salat.
After, we head it to Sarajevo, where approximate time of arrival is around 18:00.

This tour takes place mostly during the season from April until December, and is scheduled once a day with start at 8:30.
