Tour Overview

Visiting Travnik, Jajce, and Pliva Lakes as part of Central Bosnia on a full-day tour from Sarajevo is a unique way to experience this part of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Jajce city indeed bears the epithet “royal” as it has been the residence of the Bosnian Kings. It is the World’s only city with a natural waterfall in the city center, the residence of the last Bosnian King. At the same time, in 1943, Jajce became the birthplace of modern Yugoslavia.

Pliva Mills and Pliva Lakes are great nature add-ons for this tour and will make you even more appreciate Bosnia and Herzegovina’s beauty.

We also do not forget to pay a visit to Travnik – Ottoman time vizier’s town, Nobel prize winner Ivo Andrić’s birthplace, stunning Plava Voda springs, and the old Ottoman fortress.

Jajce

Morning ride will take us through interesting regions of central Bosnia, passing by Visoko town and valley of Bosnian Pyramids. We will continue the ride along the flows of river Bosna and Lasva including an especially beautiful flow and canyon of Vrbas. Nearly three hours later, we will arrive to Jajce.

Once there, first thing we go and see is one of the World’s most beautiful waterfalls, and the only one in the World placed in the city center, famous Pliva Waterfalls – spot where Pliva river ends its flow and meets Vrbas is simply breathtaking.

After we bless our eyes and souls we will head for a walking tour through Jajce and visit Jajce Citadel (Fortress), the Museum of the Second Session of the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia (AVNOJ), Medvjed Kula, the Tower of St. Luke, famous Catacombs – underground church and one of the World’s very few mosques named after woman – Mosque of Esma Sultanija.

Jajce Citadel is amazingly interesting place so no doubt you will enjoy.

Pliva Lakes and Pliva Mills

Once we fully soak up the atmosphere of amazing Jajce we will head towards the two lakes – Large and Small Pliva Lake.

Whatever you prefer, walking around, kayaking or canoeing (in 1963. World and European Championship in kayaking and canoeing on still waters were held on Pliva lake), laying on the beaches, swimming, fishing or just photography – everything is only a “desire” away 🙂

Very interesting part of the Pliva lakes story are Mills at small Pliva lake. Amongst people famously called “Mlinčići” this place used to be main tourist potential of Great Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy.

We will make a lunch break and enjoy some quality time at Large Pliva Lake.  After Jajce and surroundings it is time to head back, but the we are not ending this day yet.

Sarajevo War Tunnel was dug in July 1993 and used to be main supply route to Sarajevo during the Siege

Travnik, Ottoman Fort and Plava Voda Springs

Sarajevo Olympic Bobsled Track at Trebevic Mountain

A very important part of the this tour is Travnik, viziers town rich with cultural and historical heritage.

Travnik is a place where we will see one of the best preserved Ottoman forts in our country dating late XIV century.

Location just under the fort is home to stunningly beautiful springs of Plava Voda (“blue water”), place ideal for Bosnian coffee break.

Sarajevo Cable Car

It is very important to mention that Travnik is hometown to Bosnian Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andric and his most famous novel Bridge Over Drina.

We don’t forget and Coloured Mosque, both Clock Towers as Travnik is the only town in Bosnia with two of those, and very centre of Travnik carsija (marketplace). To put a cherry on a top, we will taste the worldwide famous Travnik sheep cheese.

After explorations of Travnik we will head back to Sarajevo with arrival at, roughly, 7 PM. However, having in mind we are always pushing our limits and going above and beyond in order to keep up with the outstanding quality of each of our trips, day can be even longer.

My husband and I recently did this tour with Jbrahicu, apologies if I haven’t got correct spelling. We can’t speak highly enough of this young man. He was pleasant, professional and has a great sense of humour. We must also mention his impressive work ethic, rarely seen in a person of his age.
The tour was great. We had great explanations on what we were seeing. We had an extra bonus with a lesson in the process in preparation and drinking of coffee. This young man is an asset to the company he works for, we have no doubt that he’ll not only achieve his goals, but excel in them.

Kind Regards
Jacey and Craig Hitchcock.

A long journey but well worth it to gaze at Jajce waterfalls and explore pliva lakes and the rest of this beautiful city. Regular stops helped to break up what was a long day.

Funky Tours were excellent with knowledgeable guides and a friendly adaptable approach to clients needs and wishes.

I’d definitely book with them again.

We covered a few tours with funky mainly Sebrenica, private tour from Mostar to Sarajevo, Seige on Sarajevo and the above.

We had some great tour guides with a wealth of knowledge, very respectful and quite accomodating and customised their approach where needed.

We have made some great friends along the way and hope to come to B&H soon to explore its natural beauty and the most hopeful people I have seen. Truly humbling experience with the history the people of this country have gone through. Would highly recommend Funky tours from Nadira who helped us out to book some last minute tours all the way to Adnan and Almir for being professional, yet sincere and honest tour guides with their personal experiences.
We also had an additional exhibition at the memorial centre by Azir Osmanovic that was truly heartbreaking, called in the footsteps of those who (did not) cross.

Overall, we have gone away with a better understanding of the history of B&H and hoping and praying for a better future.

Funky Tours is a great tour organiser in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

They organised a 6-days tailor tour for us and were very flexible. The team members are professional, very well informed and most importantly super kind and friendly.
Ema did the whole tour organisation and was very responsive before, during and even after the tours. With Emin we did the Sarajevo streets tour, he is a passionate of the modern history of the Balkan and provided in 4-hours all the information to understand the history of Bosnia & Herzegovina with focus on Sarajevo. With Skender (Founder of Funky tours) and Enis we did a amazing 8-hours hike to Lukomir village. With Edna and Tarik, 2 young motivated students working as tour guide on part time basis, we visit Tito’s bunker and did a short hike next to Sarajevo. With Emir and Sara, we visit Jajce and Travnik, a full day tour where Emir (an archaeologist) took us on a journey covering Bosnian history and heritage from ancient time to modern days. With Almir, a war veteran, we did the Sarajevo siege tour, a must do tour to understand the atrocity of war and learn from what happened in Sarajevo so it won’t be repeated.

In a nutshell, visiting Bosnia & Herzegovina with Funky Tours is highly recommended.
